A variety of green accommodations at the Berlin Travel Festival
At the Berlin Travel Festival, Green Pearls® is represented by 14 partners who will show you how multifaceted responsible travel can be.
One of these partners is the boutique resort The Tongsai Bay, which is located on the Thai island Koh Samui. When the luxury hideout was built, it was forbidden to fell a single tree – and this ban still applies today. The Tongsai Bay staff are all local and regularly receive training in resource conservation and environmental protection. In its efforts, the hotel even goes one step further: environmental awareness and knowledge about energy efficiency or water conservation is communicated to local communities. Furthermore, the hotel participates in the local community’s cleaning work and has provided funds for the construction of a school canteen and fire station.
The ten holiday apartments of the Sagna Rotonda in Italy on the other hand cover their entire energy requirements independently – with the help of a photovoltaic system. During the periods when the apartments are unoccupied, the energy generated is not just lost, but instead is fed into the local power station. The water also originates from a natural source. For those who want to explore the wonderful natural landscapes of Piedmont by hiking, while being accommodated in the most environmentally friendly way possible, this is the right place.
In Peru you will also find accommodation with the Green Pearls® label. The local Inkaterra Hotels are real pioneers in the field of sustainable travel and are especially committed to the preservation of the Inca culture. The traditions and history of the Incas are combined with modern Peru in a special way in these comfortable houses. In cooperation with their own NGO Inkaterra Asociación (ITA), you also have the opportunity to volunteer during your trip and to not only experience special moments in the Amazon, but also actively participate in the protection of the Amazonian nature.
Those who do not want to travel quite as far into the distance will of course be able to find suitable accommodation in Germany. In the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, the Hotel Sturm, which has been awarded the title of Biohotel, welcomes you with its natural swimming pond, the Rhön Spa and a special focus on culinary delights. In the hotel’s own restaurant you will be served regional and seasonal organic delicacies. It is not a coincidence that the Biohotel Sturm is also a member of Slow Food Germany. In addition, the hotel is climate-neutral, which means it is continuously reducing its CO2 emissions. Unavoidable remaining emissions are compensated through climate protection projects in Uruguay and Rwanda.
The Creativhotel Luise, in the heart of Erlangen, shows you exactly how a city hotel can be designed and managed in an environmentally friendly way. The hotel was not only the first climate-neutral hotel in 2010, but since 2015 it is also one of the first climate-positive hotels in Germany. Despite its location in the middle of the city, the hotel has its own orchard and beehive – you can buy the honey produced here. Special highlight: You can even stay overnight in one of the “renewable hotel rooms®”. All materials used in the rooms are 100% biodegradable or recyclable. If you wish, you can even be served a zero-waste breakfast in the morning. And the area of sustainable mobility has also been taken into consideration: Guests of the Creativhotel may use a shared car for trips around the city as well as charging stations for their own electric cars.
