Christine Thürmer, born in 1967 in Forchheim, made a career as a manager after her studies. After an involuntary career break, she quit her job for good in 2007 and has since devoted herself exclusively to long-distance hiking, biking and paddling. With 53.000 kilometers on foot, she is probably the most hiked woman in the world and is known among outdoor fans as the "German Tourist". She has walked three times each across both the U.S. and all of Europe, and has also biked 30,000 kilometers and paddled 6,500 kilometers in between. She has won the Triple Crown Award, the 2017 ITB Book Award, and the 2019 Discovery Days First Prize for Best Lecture. Her books "Running. Eat. Sleep." about the U.S. trails, "Hiking. Biking. Paddling." about her tours in Europe, and "Weite Wege wandern" with her concentrated outdoor know-how were on the Spiegel bestseller list for months.
