What are the top destinations of 2019?
There are some brilliant destinations coming up for 2019. One we all have our eye on is Japan, a country that’s only been increasing in popularity over the last few years. With the Rugby World Cup taking place next year, followed by the Olympics in 2020, Japan is only going to go from strength to strength. From G Adventures, we have updated our popular Backroads of Japan tour, which takes travelers even further off the tourist trail as they travel from Tokyo to Kyoto. We’ve also launched our welcomed social enterprise project in Japan, in the community of Hagi. Here travelers will stay with local farmers and the older members of the community through the Hagi Homestay Association, providing them with purpose and employment.
Next on the list has to be South Africa. We’ve seen some fantastic growth across our tours in South Africa, which range from longer circuits where travelers can take in neighboring Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland to week-long immersions in parks such as Kruger as part of our National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures collection. Here travelers will spend time watching the abundant wildlife, including elephants, lions, and giraffes before visiting the Carnivore Conservation Experience where they can learn about the efforts being taken to save and protect cheetahs and other carnivores.
Last on the list is Sri Lanka, where we have seen a 58% increase in sales year on year. This year we launched the first sailing trips off the south coast of Sri Lanka, which enjoyed an incredible 90% sell out rate in the first three months. We then went on to launch sailing in the east and, in December, in the northern coast of the island. This northern itinerary allows travelers to visit the lesser-traveled regions, which were cut off for decades due to civil war. As 2019 marks the ten year anniversary of the end of the civil war, now is a great time for travelers to visit, taking advantage of the pristine beaches and untouched areas that Sri Lanka’s northern parts offer.
