Nina Hüpen-Bestendonk


As a visual storyteller and bouncy ball world champion, with a degree in graphic design and photography, Nina loves to explore and show the beauty of the world in all its forms and colours to as many people as possible through her illustrations and photography. She has been blogging about different projects for over 12 years and started her own blog, Smaracuja, in 2011.

Rotterdam‘s architecture, Antarctica‘s landscape, Ireland‘s film-sets or even Hanover‘s hidden corners – Smaracuja always aims to inspire to travel, through documentary photography, candid writing and some fun doodles. Readers appreciate Nina‘s honest opinion, her ability to find and show off beauty in things not classically considered aesthetic as well as the helpful information provided. Smaracuja has won several awards as best travel blog in Germany and has been a suggested user by Instagram.

Today, Nina is working as a corporate content creator and social media consultant for major tourism brands and appears as an expert at conferences and travel shows. She is a founding member of German blogging collective Reiseblogger Kollektiv. Also, she is finally learning to play the ukulele.
